The SDC Jean-Talon is the fruit of an initiative taken by a few retailers who received remarkable support from the Corporation de Relance Economique et Communautaire de Saint-Léonard, the Board of trade of Saint-Leonard as well as from the borough of Saint-Leonard.

In 2002, a study carried out by Convercité, fuelled the desire to create a Promotional Committee in order to develop activities as an incentive to bring in more business on Jean-Talon Street in Saint-Leonard. During the first few years, the committee was able to put together side walk sales, as well as window dressing contests for the retailers and Christmas Contests for the consumers.

A few years later, the Promotional Committee, sensing it was now time to move on to the next level, took the required steps in order to create a Société de Développement Commercial (SDC) by choosing to place itself under the law “sur les cités et villes, L.R.Q..c.C-19. “

In January 2008, all the retailers and business professionals of the area were convoked to vote at a referendum. Thanks to a good rate of participation and a great victory, the SDC Jean-Talon was created at the heart of Saint-Leonard, by the borough of Saint-Leonard at the request of local retailers and business professionals in February 2008. In April 2008, it set up office at the corner of Valdombre Street.

Now, the SDC Jean-Talon officially represents a specific geographic area of Jean-Talon Street East which lies between Blvd Viau and De la Villanelle Street (located Ouest of Blvd Langelier). This shopping and dining strip comprises approximately 250 retailers and professional business people.
